Children under 5 ride free with a paying adult, students show their student ID or BATA reduced fare card and save 50% off of regular fare prices.  Pay for rides using cash, fare cards, or a phone app. 

 

 

Your teenager may be hoping for more independence, or you may be spending your time as their taxi service.  BATA can help.

 

Take the free Bayline to Northwest Michigan College, Central High School, Central Neighborhood, Northwest Education Services, Creekside School, Career Tech Center (a short walk to Traverse City High School), Greenspire Middle School, West Middle School, and will eventually serve the future TCAPS Montessori School too! 

 

Route 10 from Traverse City can serve the Suttons Bay Public Schools, the Leelenau Montessori School, and could stop at the Pathfinder School too.

 

Route 12 moves Interlochen Art Academy students between their campus and Traverse City and stops at West Middle School (and Grand Traverse Mall) along the way. It also connects to the Benzie Bus.

 

Route 13 from Traverse City can bring students to or from Greenspire High School, NMC University Center, East Middle School, SEAS, and Kingsley schools.

 

Route 14 from Traverse City can connect students between downtown Traverse City and Traverse City High School on 3-Mile Road, as well as connect to Kalkaska Area Transit at the Acme Meijer.

 

Link 15:  West Senior High School and Children's House Montessori students have a special BATA Link option between downtown Traverse City and campus.  The bus leaves BATA's Hall Street station in downtown Traverse City at 7:30am and returns at dismissal each school day.  Call 231-778-1035 or email for details.  * For 2-hour early release days, Link 15 will load students at WSH at 1:00pm (after lunch and when the TCAPS buses are loading).  Link 15 will load students at WSH at approximately 11:15am on TCAPS half days.

 

Seasonal Route 16 takes students to Old Mission Peninsula School from Traverse City. 

 

Flex Route 31 takes students from Traverse City to the Grand Traverse Civic Center, Grand Traverse Academy, Woodland School, and Oleson's near East Middle School. 

 

Students may also request a bus on demand using a phone app.  BATA will pick them up within 30 minutes anywhere around Traverse City.  Please see our service map here.

TCAPS students can use a combination of the free Bayline and TCAPS school buses for an affordable option to school.  Call TCAPS Transportation at 231-933-1933 for more information about your child's bus routes.  

 

These area school districts offer transportation for their students:

 

TCAPS has the Student Support Network (SSN), formally the STEP program, that will help fund BATA passes for students who lack regular or adequate housing.  

 

The TCAPS Indigenous Education program, also has funding for Indigenous students to receive monetary help with school-related expenses.

 

Traverse City area middle school students (WMS, EMS, & SEAS) can ride the BATA bus from school to Hickory Hills after dismissal on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from January - March.  Click here for more info.
