New Sola
r Stops!
BATA installed 5 new solar transit stops in key locations along its normal routes, known as "SolStops." When prompted with a push-button, these stops will illuminate to provide lighting for the passenger, as well as for the approaching bus to have a better visual of the transit stop. These SolStops are paid for by a generous grant from the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa & Chippewa Indians 2% Grant. These were installed at locations and routes below.
Bayline: Ace Hardware @West Front Street, 6th Street @ Elmwood, East Front @ Fair Street
Route 2: Barlow St. Secretary of State branch

Solar Shelters
We've also installed 14 new solar shelters in our service areas. These shelters will allow for a more enjoyable riding experience for our passengers, especially in inclement weather. The shelters are built in two sizes: 6’ x 10’ and 4’ x 8’. The larger model will address accessibility needs while providing riders with a more comfortable environment. The smaller model will add convenience, allowing us to provide passengers access in areas with greater space restrictions.
In addition, riders will have access to our system-wide maps and brochures inside each solar shelter, providing our passengers with information as it is needed.
The new glass shelters are solar lit for energy efficiency and cleaned on a regular basis.
